What’s Inside a Miniso Mystery Bag?

If you love a good surprise and you’re a sucker for cute merch, Miniso Mystery Bags are dangerously tempting. Every time we’re anywhere near the Miniso in Derby, we seem to “accidentally” come home with one. Or two. Oops.

These bags are only available in store and usually cost around £19.99–£24.99, depending on which ones they have in stock. You don’t know exactly what you’re going to get, but that’s half the fun. (Due to the mystery surprise, you can’t return these bags, but you are always made aware of this on checkout.)

Today, I thought I’d share some of the bits I’ve had in past bags, if I think they’re worth the money, and how you can win a Miniso Mystery Bag of your own at the end of this post.

What are Miniso Mystery Bags?

Miniso Mystery Bags are sealed goodie bags filled with a mix of products from across the shop. They often feature popular character ranges – think Sanrio, Disney, Pixar and more – along with stationery, lifestyle bits and cute homeware.

You don’t get to peek inside, but usually the bags are themed or labelled in some way (for example, a Sanrio bag, a plush-heavy bag, or a beauty one). The exact mix varies, so even if you buy the same style of bag twice, you’re unlikely to get the exact same items again.

Because they’re only available in store, they feel a bit like a special treat when you spot them. For us, that usually means a little pilgrimage to the Derby store and a lot of dithering in front of the display, trying to pick “the lucky one”.

How much do they cost?

The bags I’ve picked up have been between £19.99 and £24.99.

When you add up the individual items inside, the value usually works out higher than what you’ve paid – especially if you love character merch. But of course, it will always depend on how much you personally like and will use what’s inside.

A peek inside my previous Miniso Mystery Bags

You’ll see some of my past hauls in the photos in this post, but here’s a closer look at a few of my favourite finds.

Cosy Hogwarts Cushion

A round, black plush cushion features the Hogwarts crest from Harry Potter in yellow embroidery, displaying the four house symbols: lion, snake, badger, and raven, with the word Hogwarts above.

One of my biggest “wow, that’s in there?!” moments was pulling out a big, soft Hogwarts cushion. It’s a round, fluffy black cushion with the Hogwarts crest embroidered in gold on the front. It feels really plush and looks brilliant on the sofa or propped on a bed for extra cosiness.

Considering that something like this would cost a decent chunk on its own, it definitely helped the bag feel like good value.

Sanrio Cuteness Overload

Sanrio-themed items: a pink Pochacco cloth with swimming cartoon characters, a My Melody keyring, a Disney bear keyring, and a small Hello Kitty doll bed with hearts. Items are arranged on a white wooden background.

Another time, I ended up with a bag that was basically a love letter to Sanrio fans.

Inside there was:

  • A fluffy Cinnamoroll bag – soft, sky-blue and ridiculously cute, with Cinnamoroll’s little face on the front.
  • A pink Pochacco fold-up tote bag, perfect for shopping days. When it’s folded away it barely takes up any space, but unfolded it’s covered in an adorable pool-party design.
  • A My Melody keyring with a matching strap, ready to jazz up keys, a lanyard, or a bag.
  • A tiny Hello Kitty bed – the kind of miniature accessory that’s begging to be part of a shelf display or used with figures.

Mixed in with those were other bits like a Disney keyring and smaller accessories. It felt like opening a kawaii lucky dip.

Are Miniso Mystery Bags worth it?

So, are they actually worth the money? For me, yes – with a couple of caveats.

Pros

  • Great value if you already enjoy Miniso’s style and characters.
  • Fun surprise factor – opening the bag really does feel like a mini event.
  • Nice mix of items – you usually get a blend of practical things (bags, pouches, keyrings) and fun display pieces.
  • Perfect for gifting – if there’s something you don’t personally love, it’s easy to re-gift to a friend or pop in a stocking.

Things to bear in mind

  • You can’t choose what’s inside. If you’re super picky, mystery bags might frustrate you.
  • You may get duplicates if you buy them regularly, especially with things like keyrings or small accessories.
  • Only available in-store. If you don’t live near a Miniso, they’re not the easiest thing to get hold of.

Overall, if you like cute merch, collect character items, or just enjoy a good surprise, Miniso Mystery Bags are a really fun treat a couple of times a year.

Tips for picking a Miniso Mystery Bag

A collection of cute items on a white wooden surface, including a blue Cinnamoroll plush bag, a pink My Melody lanyard, two character keyrings, a pink Pochacco pouch, and a Hello Kitty-themed miniature bed.

You can’t see the contents, but there are a few little things I tend to do:

  • Check the weight and shape. Heavier bags often mean bigger or more solid items inside. While big light ones often mean a cushion.
  • Look at the theme. Sometimes they offer a themed bag; last time we were in, some of them included edible items. However, these were clearly marked.
  • Set a budget first. It’s easy to get swept up, and suddenly you’ve justified “just one more” mystery bag.

Have you ever bought a Miniso Mystery Bag? What did you think of it?
