5 Steam Games to Try This September

Steam has a habit of throwing some very random games at me, and of course, I end up wanting to try half of them.

So, I thought, why not make a monthly thing of it?

Each month I’m going to pick five games that have caught my eye. They might be new releases, older games I’ve only just stumbled across, single-player or something you can rope your friends into.

Basically, if it makes me stop scrolling and think, “Ooh, that looks fun”, it can make the list.

So, here are five Steam games that have caught my eye for September.

MECCHA CHAMELEON

I’m starting with possibly the most ridiculous one of the lot.

MECCHA CHAMELEON is basically hide-and-seek, except you can paint yourself to try and blend into the scenery. Because apparently regular hide-and-seek wasn’t chaotic enough.

Players are split into Hiders and Seekers, with the Hiders trying to camouflage themselves by matching their character to whatever is around them.

Where you hide and even how you pose can make a difference, so I can already imagine thinking I’ve done an incredible job of disappearing while actually being ridiculously obvious.

This one is multiplayer, so definitely one to get some friends involved with.

How to Fish

You would think a game called How to Fish would be quite relaxing.

You would be wrong.

After a boating mishap leaves you stranded on an island, you’ve got to learn how to fish to make your way home.

You can catch and sell fish, upgrade your equipment, explore different islands and take on quests and bosses. There are also rare versions of different fish to find, which adds a bit of collecting into the mix.

You can play by yourself or with up to three other people online.

Personally, I feel like adding friends is only going to make the fishing considerably more chaotic.

Librarian: Tidy Up the Arcane Library!

Someone has made a game about putting books back on shelves and I immediately want to play it.

That’s it. That’s the recommendation.

OK, there’s slightly more to it than that.

A mischievous fairy has caused complete chaos in a magical library and there are 3,072 books that need putting back in their proper places.

You need to look at things like the book titles and covers to work out where they belong, slowly clearing the floor and getting the library back into some sort of order.

There are magical abilities you can unlock to help you along the way too.

I have a feeling this is either going to be incredibly satisfying or I’ll still be sorting virtual books at 2am.

ReStory: Chill Electronics Repairs

There’s something oddly satisfying about games where you get to fix things, so ReStory: Chill Electronics Repairs immediately caught my eye.

It’s set in mid-2000s Tokyo and puts you in charge of an electronics repair shop.

Customers bring in old consoles, phones, cameras, music players and other bits of tech for you to repair, so there’s a nice bit of nostalgia mixed in too.

It’s not just about fixing electronics, though. You’ll get to know the people who come into the shop and make choices that can affect their stories, your business and how the game ends.

I like the idea of having the actual repairing side alongside a story rather than it just being fix item, next item, fix item, next item.

Cleaning Up The Puzzle Gallery

And finally, we’ve got another game about cleaning up a gigantic mess.

Apparently, I have a type.

In Cleaning Up The Puzzle Gallery, an earthquake has scattered 2,071 puzzle pieces around an art gallery and you’ve got to find them all and put 87 paintings back together.

The paintings include works from artists such as Monet, Van Gogh and Hokusai, and you can take your time putting everything back together while listening to classical music.

You can even upload your own images and turn them into puzzles, which is a really nice extra.

Between this and the library, September could apparently be the month I spend hours tidying up things that don’t actually exist.

What Are You Playing This Month?

So that’s my five for September.

We’ve got fishing, fixing electronics, sorting thousands of books, rebuilding an art gallery and painting ourselves to look like the furniture.

A perfectly normal selection, then.

I’m hoping to make this a monthly series, so I’d love to know what you’ve stumbled across on Steam recently.

And, more importantly, which of these five would you play?

Competition

Would you like to win £15 to spend on anything you want over on Steam (which, by the way, would get you even the most expensive game on this list, or multiple of the cheaper ones)? Then now is your chance!

To be in with a chance of winning, all you need to do is follow the options on the Gleam widget below.

Win a £15 Steam Voucher

I’ve had to introduce a mandatory comment entry; sadly, all my competitions are getting lots of entries from outside the UK who are taking advantage of the click-through entry options and never even visiting my blog or checking my terms. If this changes, I will revert to all entries being optional, but for now I am sorry about this change.

Once you have completed the mandatory comment entry, all others are optional but gain you more chances in the final draw.

The competition is open to the UK only and has a closing date of 01/10. Good Luck!

  1. One of my favourite chill games of all time is PC Building Simulator, so ReStory: Chill Electronics Repairs would be right up my street!

  2. I would probably let me son spend the Steam voucher. These games are interesting to me, I like puzzles and quieter games that make you think.

  3. Good picks! My kids are loving Mecca Chameleon at the moment and of your five the Librarian one appeals to me most. I’m currently loving Balatro so if I won I’d pick something I could play with my family like Big Walk. It looks really fun 🙂

  4. I think the Librarian: Tidy Up the Arcane Library! looks fun but I would prob spend it on something Sims related.

  5. Hard decision between Restory or Librarian. Restory has had more feedback from my friends, but Librarian seems more interesting to me.

  6. I don’t tend to play games anymore, but my stepson is really serious about his gaming, so I would give the voucher to him, because he would make really good use of it, and Christmas is coming………..

  7. I already own and play Meccha Chameleon, which is super fun with friends! So I’d be torn between Librarian: Tidy Up the Arcane Library!, and Restory – both look really good!

  8. I’d actually gift this to my son and let him choose something to buy (yay, parenting..) but game wise I’d struggle to choose between Meccha Chameleon (because hiding from the kids is always fun) and Cleaning Up The Puzzle Gallery (like I don’t do enough tidying with 3 kids and a puppy).. They do sound right up my street!

  9. Maybe put it towards a new game that’s just been released – not sure what yet. Although Songs of Glimmerwick looks interesting ♥

  10. Rolling up my sleeves so I can get ready for sorting out that Arcane Library. Love the sound of that one!

  11. Loads of more famous games on my list but wouldn’t mide trying Librarian – reminds me of Unpacking which is a wonderful game.

  12. I’d go for ReStory: Chill Electronics Repairs — I love the idea of fixing old tech while uncovering the characters’ stories. 🎮🔧
