Things That Feel Expensive But Aren’t
Luxury doesn’t always have to mean spending a lot of money.
Sometimes the things that make life feel a little richer are surprisingly simple, from small upgrades to tiny rituals, or everyday items that feel just a bit more special.
So, to try and remind us all of that, I’ve put together some things that feel expensive but actually aren’t.
Fresh Bed Sheets

In my mind few things feel as luxurious as climbing into a bed with freshly washed sheets.
You don’t need hotel-quality bedding either, even basic cotton sheets feel amazing when they’re clean, cool and freshly made.
Bonus points if you plump the pillows and pretend you’re checking into a boutique hotel.
A Bakery Croissant
Supermarket pastries are fine, but buying a proper croissant from a bakery feels oddly indulgent.
It might only cost a couple of pounds, but sitting with one and a cup of coffee can feel like a small café moment at home.
Fancy Hand Soap
Upgrading your hand soap is one of the easiest ways to make your home feel a bit more put-together.
A nice bottle on the sink instantly makes the space feel a little bit more posh.
Fresh Flowers from the Supermarket
You don’t need a florist’s bouquet.
A small £3–£5 bunch of flowers from the supermarket can somehow completely change how a room feels.
Lighting a Candle Before It’s Dark
Candles often feel like something you’re “saving”. (Please don’t ask Ash how many I have.
So why not light one on an ordinary afternoon, as it can make the day feel special.
A Long Shower
Taking the time for a proper, unhurried shower can feel surprisingly luxurious.
Especially if you follow it with fresh pyjamas or cosy clothes.
Using the “Good” Mug
Almost everyone has one mug they secretly prefer; with me, it’s the biggest one.
So why not use it today and make your cuppa feel slightly more special.
Clean, Matching Towels

Fresh towels, especially when they match, can make your bathroom feel like a spa, even if it’s tiny.
Rearranging Your Space
Moving furniture, decluttering a surface or styling a shelf can make your home feel completely different without spending anything.
A Walk Somewhere Scenic
If you’re able, why not take a quiet walk through a park, woodland trail or along the coast, it costs nothing but can feel surprisingly refreshing.
A Proper Breakfast
Instead of grabbing something quickly, making a proper breakfast plate can feel indulgent.
Even something simple like toast, eggs and tea can feel special when you slow down and really enjoy it.
Wearing Your Cosy Clothes
Soft jumpers, fluffy socks or comfortable loungewear can instantly make a day feel calmer. (From the person who does this daily).
Organising Something Small
Tidying a drawer or organising a shelf can give a small but satisfying sense of control.
Fresh Air Through Open Windows
Opening windows and letting fresh air move through your home can instantly change the atmosphere.
Watching the Rain with a Hot Drink

Rainy days feel far better when you embrace them.
Tea, a blanket and the sound of rain on the window can feel oddly peaceful.
Final Thoughts
Feeling good doesn’t always require spending money.
Often it’s the small, everyday things that make life feel softer, calmer and a little more luxurious.
Sometimes the secret isn’t buying more, it’s noticing what already feels good to you.
