Low Energy? 20 Hobbies That Don’t Require a Ton of Effort

Sometimes you want to be that “productive hobby person”, but the energy just isn’t there, and that’s okay. No matter if you are burnt out, overstimulated, or just vibing at 10% battery, these gentle, low-effort hobbies can help you feel a little more like yourself without needing to “hustle” or even sit up properly.

Gentle on the Brain

  1. Listening to audiobooks or cosy podcasts
Perfect for when reading is too much. Try fantasy, humour, or gentle slice-of-life stuff.
  2. Watching slow TV (like train journeys or log fires)
Surprisingly soothing. No plot, no pressure.
  3. Ambient journaling
Listen to the world around you, be that nature, music or the TV and just think one word, one doodle, one feeling at a time. No rules.
  4. Puzzle apps
Just enough stimulation to keep your brain ticking, but easy to drop any time.
  5. Playing with stickers
Collect them, arrange them, stick them in a notebook just because. My favourite is a sticker book where the stickers can be moved and rearranged whenever you want.

Creative But Chill

  1. Colouring in
Mandalas, animals, or chaos scribbles. Bonus if you use gel pens.
  2. Needle felting or slow crafting
Quietly stabbing wool into little shapes = oddly satisfying.
  3. Digital scrapbooking or photo collaging
No glue required. Use Canva or Pinterest mood boards to get the same effect.
  4. Making friendship bracelets or beaded keychains
Rhythmic, soothing, and you end up with a trinket.
  5. Doodle challenges
“Draw one thing every day”. No pressure to finish or share.

Calming & Cosy

A diagram titled Breathing Exercises shows a cycle with three sections: Inhale (green), Hold (yellow), and Exhale (red), surrounding a simple drawing of a calm face practising the exercise.
  1. Watching ASMR or craft videos
Let someone else make tiny things while you do nothing at all.
  2. Breathing exercises or guided meditations
Apps like Headspace or Insight Timer make it easy.
  3. Taking care of plants
Mist, water, and whisper encouragement to your leafy pals.
  4. Playing chill video games
Think Stardew Valley, Dorfromantik, or Animal Crossing.
  5. Arranging your books or playlists by vibe
    Not alphabetically, just by feel.

Wholesome Self-Soothe Vibes

A person relaxing in a bubble bath holds a mug of coffee. One leg rests on the edge of the tub, and a lit candle sits on a wooden bath tray nearby. The scene suggests calm and self-care.
  1. Rewatching comfort shows
You already know what happens. Let it wrap around you like a blanket.
  2. Petting your pet (or imagining you have one)
10/10 serotonin if they’re actually real. If you don’t have a pet, a teddy can count to.
  3. Window watching with tea
The weather and people watching is the best slow cinema.
  4. Bubble baths or extra-long showers
    Mood reset: activated.
  5. Napping with purpose
Yes, it’s a hobby. No, we won’t debate this.

Not every hobby has to be a full-time passion project. Sometimes the best hobbies are the ones that ask very little from you and still give you a whole lot in return. So go ahead, hobby softly. You deserve it.
