50 Weird & Wonderful Things to Do When You’re Bored at Home

There’s only so much scrolling, snoozing, and fridge-checking you can do before the boredom fully takes over. But instead of slipping into the void (again), why not try something a little… odd? Here’s a delightfully strange list of 50 things to do at home designed to shake up your day, tickle your brain, or just make you laugh at yourself a bit.

Quirky Fun

A young woman in a yellow jumper smiles with her eyes closed, holding a gold trophy in one hand and touching her chest with the other, appearing proud and grateful in a cosy living room.
  1. Recreate a famous painting using only household objects
  2. Host a fake awards ceremony for yourself (“Best Blanket Burrito,” anyone?)
  3. Create a new dance move and name it something ridiculous
  4. Write and perform a dramatic monologue about your day to your pet or houseplant
  5. Make sock puppets and give them emotional trauma
  6. Pretend you’re in a cooking show while making toast
  7. Put on an outfit you’d never normally wear and strut down your hallway like a catwalk
  8. Voiceover your neighbours like you’re David Attenborough
  9. Make a musical instrument from kitchen items (jam jar maracas?)
  10. Interview yourself as if you’re on a celebrity podcast

Creative & Chaotic

  1. Start a micro-zine about your week (use sticky notes!)
  2. Try non-dominant hand drawing and make a weird little art gallery
  3. Invent a new language, bonus points if you use it with the cat
  4. Doodle what your inner goblin looks like
  5. Make a time capsule you’ll forget about next week
  6. Write a haiku about your laundry pile
  7. Create your dream festival lineup (dead artists allowed)
  8. Curate a playlist for a fictional character
  9. Collage your “inner moodboard” using magazine cut-outs or screenshots
  10. Record your own weird sound effects and make a soundscape

Low-Effort Laughs

Five mugs sit on a wooden table. From left to right: one with a floral design, a yellow mug with a smiley face, a green frog-shaped mug, a mug with a rabbit illustration, and a white mug with colourful polka dots.
  1. Name every item on your desk like it’s a fantasy RPG party
  2. Read your old Facebook statuses dramatically
  3. Rank your mugs by “personality”
  4. Write a product review for something absurd (e.g., air or socks)
  5. Narrate your day like you’re in a survival documentary
  6. Try to guess what time it is without checking, then check
  7. Stare into space and invent a conspiracy theory
  8. Watch a YouTube rabbit hole about something random, like antique combs
  9. Try tongue twisters until you giggle
  10. Pretend you’re in a period drama while making tea

Play & Pretend

  1. Build a blanket fort and “move in” for an hour
  2. Do a solo scavenger hunt (e.g., find 3 blue things, 2 soft things, 1 snack)
  3. Make up a new holiday and celebrate it
  4. Do a fake unboxing video with something super mundane
  5. Pretend you’re in The Sims and narrate your own actions
  6. “Shop” your own kitchen and pretend you’re on a budget cook-off
  7. Play charades with yourself in the mirror
  8. Roll a dice to decide what to do next
  9. Print out weird stock photos and hang them as “art”
  10. Start a “cryptid sightings” log based on your own pets

Feel-Good & Wholesome

A black and white pen rests on the open pages of a blank, lined spiral notebook placed on a wooden surface with a knitted beige fabric nearby.
  1. Make a list of things you’re oddly grateful for
  2. Write a letter to your future self (or past self!)
  3. Make a cute card for a friend and post it
  4. Watch calming aquarium livestreams
  5. Create a “Happy Things” jar to fill over time
  6. Try out an “aesthetic” version of your space for the day (cottagecore kitchen, cyberpunk bedroom?)
  7. Make a compliment list for yourself
  8. Stretch like a sleepy cat for five whole minutes
  9. Try the silliest face masks you own
  10. Turn your boredom into bragging rights and blog about it!

Being bored doesn’t have to be dull sometimes; it’s just the blank canvas your brain needs to go a little rogue. Whether you try one or all of these, may your boredom be brief and your weirdness thrive.

  11. I have a dog called Rags who’s nearly as old as me. My grandma used to work in a clothing factory and back then they were allowed to take bits of cut-out fabric home if they couldn’t use it. She made him for me and all that looks “old” is his red collar which is faded (but still a lovely red). Of course he had to be called Rags as that’s what he was made up of.

  12. My favourite is a White teddy bear with a Pink jumper that my now fiance bought me when I was in hospital for an operation 15 years ago
