10 Budget-Friendly Ways to Treat Yourself
Taking time to treat yourself is so important, but it doesn’t have to mean splashing out. Whether you’re saving for a big goal or simply trying to make your money go further, here are some creative and budget-friendly ways to indulge without feeling the pinch.
1. Host a Solo Afternoon Tea

Get fancy with a DIY afternoon tea at home. Pick up some scones, clotted cream, and jam from the supermarket, or bake your own for an extra touch. Pair with your favourite tea and a good book (audiobook in my case) for the ultimate cosy treat.
2. Have a “Me-Time” Morning
Wake up early and dedicate the first hour of your day to yourself. Whether it’s journaling, practising yoga, or sitting in silence with a cup of tea (or coffee if you prefer), this small act of self-care sets a positive tone for the day.
3. Take a Scenic Drive or Walk
Pack a flask of tea and head out for a drive to explore local scenic spots. If you’d rather walk, find a new nature trail or take a wander through a quaint village nearby, maybe even find somewhere with a canal to watch the boats go by. Sometimes, a change of scenery is the best treat.
4. Organise a Clothes Swap

Gather some friends and host a clothes-swapping party. Not only will you refresh your wardrobe for free, but you’ll also enjoy a fun social event giving you all a chance to catch up and probably share some food.
5. Play Tourist in Your Town
We often overlook the gems right on our doorstep. Visit a free museum, take a self-guided tour of historical sites, or snap photos of your favourite spots as if you were a tourist. This is especially good if you live somewhere rural, we live in a lovely little village with lots of old buildings to look at.
6. Try a Free Online Class
Learn something new without spending a penny. Platforms like YouTube or free trials on learning websites offer tutorials for everything from baking to beginner guitar lessons. This can also be a great way to learn new life skills, things to help around your home or even touch up skills to make your job easier.
7. Start a Gratitude Journal

Invest in a simple notebook or use one you already own to begin a gratitude journal. Writing down a few things you’re thankful for each day is an affordable and powerful way to lift your mood. It can also help you think about how you interact with others, which can further help boost your mood by reminding you of good things you do for friends and family.
8. Host a Game Night at Home
Dust off your board games or play online trivia with friends for an entertaining evening. Add snacks you already have in your cupboard for a low-cost but fun way to unwind. If you have consoles like Switches, there are also plenty of multiplayer games you can play with friends to add in a variety of extra things you can do.
9. Make Your Own Beauty Products
DIY beauty treatments can be just as luxurious as store-bought ones. Try making a coffee scrub with leftover grounds or a hair mask with coconut oil and honey.
10. Plan Your Dream Day
Dreaming big doesn’t cost a thing. Take time to plan your ideal day, whether it’s creating a vision board for your goals or writing a detailed itinerary for a future adventure. Just thinking about something exciting can be a treat in itself.
Treating yourself doesn’t mean emptying your wallet. With a bit of creativity, it’s easy to find joy in the small, affordable pleasures. Remember, self-care is about what makes you happy, so make time for the things that bring you joy.

Having some me time. I’m a large lady and definitely not the sort of person you’d expect to see in the gym, but I really enjoy going to the gym for an hour in the morning and zoning out to my music whilst having a workout.
