Money is tight for everyone at the moment, so we are all on the lookout for budget-friendly ideas that won’t break the bank, yet still let us have a fun day out, no matter if you are looking for something close to home, or take your brand new car out for a spin (don’t forget to make sure you have Gap Insurance to help cover the cost of your car should the worst happen).
I’ve put together 100 ideas which can be used across the UK from Cornwall to Manchester and beyond, with hopefully some ideas that are available in your local area.

A day at the beach with rock pools to explore, sandcastles to build and sea to paddle in
Due to various circumstances I have not been able to indulge in my favourite here – hike a lesser known trail. Hopefully soon.
We are lucky enough to live a short drive from Hornsea so a walk up and down the prom and a quick play on the beach if weather conditions allow costs nothing!
We have lovely local beaches and we enjoy a walk, particularly in the winter when the beaches are deserted
we like going to a local stream in the dales and have a picnic and a paddle

a nice walk along the local coastline; free, good exercise and lots of things to look out for

Walthamstow wetlands is free and great for a quiet wander, spotting birds and also has running tracks if that’s your bag. There are toilets available on one side at the cafe. The main paths are wheelchair/buggy accessible but there are some others that are more like cinder paths which are not really workable for ordinary wheelchairs.
There are so many great ideas here but my favourite budget friendly day out ideas are exploring a local nature reserve, visiting a petting zoo, feeding the ducks at a pond, picking my own fruit in the summer, playing frisbee in a park, and people-watching in a lively city park.
We love going for a walk and exploring a new area or a much loved old one. Fresh air and as cheap as chips to do that.

We’re lucky enough to live beside a huge park. We can picnic beside the river on summer days, and stroll through the woods on colder days looking out for all of the wildlife.
Has to be pack a picnic to the local park, invite lots of friends pack a blanket a ball and some games to make a real event of it

Free Local museums are great combine that with a day at the park, and a picnic, then a ‘film’ night (any film will do!) and a fakeaway and you’ve made some great memeories
Finding a peaceful spot to read a book surrounded by nature with only birdsong in the background is very relaxing.

Some great ideas for days out in Spring and summer that caters for the whole family.
Going for a walk especially to a place we haven’t been before. It doesn’t need to be far away, there’s lots in our local area we haven’t explored yet.

All are such great ideas, when we do the National gallery the kids have a note book and they have to come up with three exhibits they would like to keep, three they would like to gift and three they would recycle/tale to a charity shop … can cause quite a bit of discussion some of which is pretty comical :0)

I love the idea of a picnic in the park – such a simple but fun day out on a nice day. Take some ball games to play, use the play area, feed the ducks – and of course the picnic. Can easily fill a whole day!

Low cost? Get real. Several of these aren’t free or low cost e.g. Visit a model village and Visit a petting zoo.
